Sony Enters Netbook Market With New Addition to Vaio Line
If you are a fan of the Sony Vaio line of computers and have been waiting for the company to roll out a netbook model in this line, wait no longer, because Sony will be unveiling a new netbook, the new W-Series, in August of 2009.
Although the introduction is late to the booming netbook market, Sony has said that it intentionally waited to produce a netbook as part of its product planning strategy.
Netbook to Be First Launched in Japan
The new netbook will be launched in Japan at the beginning of August with the United States and Europe to follow shortly after the launch. The new Vaio netbook is expected to be offered in the price range of around $630 and will operate on a lower grade of specs than most Sony computers. It will utilize the Windows XP Home Edition operating system and will offer an upgraded and extremely responsive keyboard.
W-Series May Be the Answer for Sony Vaio Consumers
For Sony laptop fans that are unable to afford some of the full-sized Sony laptops and do not have the time to pursue other options such as a super free laptop, this nifty new netbook may be the answer.
Compared to other netbooks, the new Sony Vaio netbook will be priced on the high end of the spectrum. However, the netbook comes bundled with a nice array of software programs and other features not included in most of the netbooks on the market.
W-Series Vaio Netbook Overview
Convenient Travel Size: The new W-Series netbook will contain a 10.1 inch screen as compared to other netbooks with an 8.9-inch screen, and weighs about 2.6 lbs. Total size specs are 10.54″ x 1.28″ x 7.07.”
Battery Life: The new W-Series will be equipped with a battery that has a life of about 3.5 hours.
Display Specs: The display specs on the W-series give other netbooks a run for their money with an impressive resolution of 1366 x 768 on a 10.1-inch screen. Most of the netbooks on the market are offering 1024 x 600. The W-Series also incorporates LED backlighting and the XBRITE-ECO LCD technology.
Hardware: The hardware on the W-Series is quite comparable to other netbooks with an Intel 1.66 GHz processor, 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive for storage, touchpad, built-in Web cam, microphone, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, and Intel High Definition Audio Sound System.
Expansion Ports: The W-Series netbook is equipped with expansion ports that exceed those of other netbooks on the market. Also known as the Vaio W, it is equipped with two USB ports, 1 VGA port, an SD card slot reader, and a Memory Stick Duo media slot with MagicGate.
Bluetooth: Unlike most other netbooks the Vaio W has built-in Bluetooth technology with the option of connecting via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Available in Colors: The W-Series will offer a variety of colors which has been inspired by food. The colors include brown, white, and pink, to represent the foods of chocolate, cheesecake, and raspberry.
If you do not mind paying a higher price than other netbooks and are looking for a quality netbook, the Sony Vaio W may be for you. If anything, it is worth checking out when it arrives on the market in August.

| Review by Erik J. Mccullough (Austin, TX) 2010-06-06 I had read reviews of other media. I bought it because it is one of the few 10.1 "netbook with a 1366x768 resolution (1024x600 instead of what is normal for this format). This intrigued me because the screen resolution means more than you go to a page. This is generally better browsing, word processing, etc. <... Read more Sony VAIO VPC-W211AX/T reviews | ||

| Review by K. LEE (PA, USA) 2010-04-22 The first impression is its beauty. I never had any netbooks before, but this product from Sony is very satisfactory. The speed is acceptable. Yet, some people have argued with Windows 7 Starter Edition, but I would say it is intended for the calculation of light and surf the Internet, and it does really good work on these things.
